Charles Frederick "Charlie" Collier, 60, died Thursday, Jan. 19, 2012, at his home.
Charlie was the lead vocalist and played piano for Charlie Collier and the Midnight Cowboys band since 1972. His vocal style was often compared to that of Hank Williams Sr. and George Jones. Charlie had the honor of being the opening act for Lori Morgan, Gene Watson, John Conley, Billy Crash Craddock and various other artists. On several occasions, Charlie performed at political events for Virginia governors.
Charlie played at numerous benefits at local rescue squads, fire departments, Fredericksburg Eagles Lodge, Fredericksburg Moose Lodge and Mr. B's. He also played for private benefits to help assist with local families and organizations in need.
Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Frances "Dena" Collier; son Charles Edward Collier and wife Dawn; twin daughters Amy Collier
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 22, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
