People leaving Mary Washington Hospital and the many physician offices around it will soon have a new option for filling their prescriptions.

Last week Kha Le and his wife, My Linh Thi Nguyen, purchased a 1,200-square-foot condo at the Cowan Center development off Cowan Boulevard. They will run an independent pharmacy that will likely be called Cowan Pharmacy. The pharmacy is shooting to open this spring after interior renovations.

In other Fredericksburg retail news, Robert and Sarah Payne plan to open a gift shop next month called Crow's Nest Studio in the space they lease at 1006 Caroline St. in downtown Fredericksburg.

The Paynes recently moved their PA Dutch Food & Candy Co. from that storefront to a larger space across the street at 1015 Caroline St., which was the former home of Walter & Co. The candy store is now right next door to another of the Paynes' businesses, PA Dutch Tea & Spice Co.

Robert Payne said they will decide after their lease is up in a year at 1006 Caroline St. whether to continue running the gift shop there.

Other retailers have recently signed leases outside city limits. Milagrito Bakery will open a bakery and market in the Breezewood Station shopping center at 10705 Courthouse Road in Spotsylvania. Choice Dollar will move down the street to 248 Warrenton Road in Stafford County. And J's Beauty Supply has leased 1,200 square feet in Ladysmith I at 17481 Jefferson Davis Highway in Caroline County.
