HH "AMERICAN REUNION" (R) The brand of sophomoric humor that approached occasional hilarity in "American Pie" feels tawdry now that the randy youths from that 1999 movie are in their 30s. A sweet approach to the reuniting high school friends works against the attempt to generate outrageous moments. Rated R for crude and sexual content throughout, nudity, language, brief drug use and teen drinking. 113 min. [RF]

H "THE CABIN IN THE WOODS" (R) This parody of horror films doesn't work, mainly because the "team behind the scenes" idea disintegrates due to bloody excess. Rated R for strong bloody horror violence and gore, language, drug use and sexuality/nudity. 105 min. [MC, PV]

HH "DR. SEUSS' THE LORAX" (PG) Though this is an enjoyable cautionary ecological tale about the last trees, I left feeling a bit disappointed because it didn't have a mega-dose of Dr. Seuss magic. It concentrates more on action than the author's words. Rated PG for mild language. 86 min. [PV]

HHH "THE HUNGER GAMES" (PG-13) Those who have read the book will enjoy this film more than those who have not. The film adequately tracks the action in the popular young-adult novel, but it helps to know the back story to appreciate what's going on. Not for youngsters. Rated PG-13 for intense violent thematic material and disturbing images--all involving teens. 142 min. [MC, RA, RF]

HH "LOCKOUT" (PG-13) Only those who really enjoy battles on an orbiting space station will enjoy this film. It also helps to enjoy Guy Pearce delivering really campy one-liners. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and language including sexual references. 95 min. [PV]

HH "MIRROR MIRROR" (PG) Without Julia Roberts and the colorful look of this latest Snow White tale, it wouldn't be worth a ticket. But it has both, which makes the childlike romp through the fairy tale a bit of interesting whimsy. Rated PG for some fantasy action and mild rude humor 106 min. [RA, RF]
