Movies still playing in the Fredericksburg area
Trust us. You haven't seen true deep-sea drowning until you've seen it in 3-D.Twentieth Century Fox Visit the Photo Place |
HH "AMERICAN REUNION" (R) The brand of sophomoric humor that approached occasional hilarity in "American Pie" feels tawdry now that the randy youths from that 1999 movie are in their 30s. A sweet approach to the reuniting high school friends works against the attempt to generate outrageous moments. Rated R for crude and sexual content throughout, nudity, language, brief drug use and teen drinking. 113 min. [RF]
"BULLY" (PG-13) Not reviewed. A documentary about peer-to-peer bullying in American schools. Rated PG-13 for intense thematic material, disturbing content, and some strong language - all involving kids. 98 min. [PV]H "THE CABIN IN THE WOODS" (R) This parody of horror films doesn't work, mainly because the "team behind the scenes" idea disintegrates due to bloody excess. Rated R for strong bloody horror violence and gore, language, drug use and sexuality/nudity. 105 min. [PV]
HHH "CHIMPANZEE" (G) Disney deserves a rainforest full of credit for producing this amazing documentary on a young chimp and the group he's with in the Ivory Cost. It's a joy to watch, though brief violence could be troubling to the very young. Rated G. 78 min. [PV]
HHH "THE HUNGER GAMES" (PG-13) Those who have read the book will enjoy this film more than those who have not. The film adequately tracks the action in the popular young-adult novel, but it helps to know the back story to appreciate what's going on. Not for youngsters. Rated PG-13 for intense violent thematic material and disturbing images--all involving teens. 142 min. [MC, RA, RF]
HH "LOCKOUT" (PG-13) Only those who really enjoy battles on an orbiting space station will enjoy this film. It also helps to enjoy Guy Pearce delivering really campy one-liners. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and action, and language including sexual references. 95 min. [PV]
HH "THE LUCKY ONE" (PG-13) Former teen heartthrob Zac Efron in a lead role will keep people from taking this too seriously, though solid female leads will help this Nicholas Sparks tale make a connection for some. Rated PG-13 for some sexuality and violence. 101 min. [MC, RA, RF]
