Thomas Arthur "Tom" Shunk, 55, of Stafford County went to Heaven on Monday, April 30, 2012, after a short battle with brain cancer.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife, Sue. He was the loving father of David Shunk, and stepfather of Beth Cornell (and Bryan), Athena Nicholls (and Jay), Desiree Patterson (and Brian), Cyrena Crecelius and Leland Crecelius; and loving "Papa-Tom" to Avery Mae Shunk, Joshua, Mackenzie, Alexandra, Donovan and Delaney Cornell and Jeremiah Nicholls.

He was preceded in death by daughter Nicole Louise and son Nathaniel Adam.

Tom was a beloved son of Virginia and the late Richard Shunk; loving brother to Diane Ehrler (and Paul), Joyce Bies (and Douglas), Karen Hanovich (and Robert), Daniel Shunk (and Ann), Cheryl Aquino (and Thomas), Victoria Willits, Paula Keipert and Kathy Huffman (and Mark); uncle to 33 nieces and nephews; great-uncle to five nieces and nephews; and brother-in-law to Neil Hills (and Bonnie), Garth Hills (and Reneth) and Jean Hills.

Tom was born in Detroit, Mich., on Feb. 27, 1957. He graduated from Paul K. Cousino High School, Warren, Mich., in 1975 and attended the University of Michigan. Tom became an independent businessman providing car-wash repair service throughout metropolitan Detroit. Tom lived in the Austin, Texas, area during the 1980s and '90s, when he worked for Abbot Laboratories. During this time, his son, David, was born. Tom and David returned to Michigan in the late 1990s and lived in Roscommon near family. After his marriage to Sue Hills Crecelius in 2005, they relocated to Virginia. Tom and Sue co-owned and operated PDQ Appliance Service. They loved to travel and shared an interest in genealogy, spending many busy days researching family history. Tom was a member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering for Habitat for Humanity.

A memorial service and celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, May 11, at Ebenezer UMC, 161 Embrey Mill Road, Stafford. A reception will follow.
