Bills for Culpeper town electricity customers will go down this month.
According to town public information officer Wally Bunker, a 42.7 percent reduction in Dominion Virginia Power's fuel surcharge is responsible for the lower bills.
That translates to a 6.1 percent decrease, or $7.36 per 1,000 kilowatts used, for town customers. Culpeper buys its power from Dominion Power.
"A typical residential customer, using 1,000 kilowatt hours of electricity a month, will see their bill drop from $121.71 to $114.35," Bunker said.
The fuel surcharge is evaluated every April and again in October if necessary, Bunker said.
"The fuel surcharge is a direct pass-through to customers since Dominion Virginia Power reduced its fuel charge to produce electricity," said light and power director Mike Stover. "The town's 5,104 electric customers are benefiting from the reduced costs by Dominion Virginia Power to produce electricity."
