Stafford asks input on 350th birthday celebration plans

Stafford County wants to have a grand, yearlong birthday party in 2014.

It will take a year and a half of planning and brainstorming to get ready for the county's 350th anniversary.

And Stafford officials want your help.

A 350th Blue Ribbon Planning Committee was appointed by the Board of Supervisors last year.

The group will hold two town-hall meetings next week to gather ideas from residents.

The meetings are planned for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and 10 a.m. Saturday. Both will be held in the board chambers of the George L. Gordon Jr. Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road.

Besides individuals, groups such as churches, business, and civic organizations are invited.

The committee is also looking for volunteers to assist on its various subcommittees, including finance and fundraising; public relations, marketing, outreach and human resources; education and legacy; and events, programs and logistics.
