Do schools enable socialist slide? No

After reading Jeff Wick's op-ed on May 6, I was shocked to see that he is the principal of a public school ["Public education: A socialist plot to take over America"].

If he believes that public education is the gateway to a socialist state, why is he in the field of public education?

I am the product of public schools and yes, I received services at those schools. Just because I received my polio vaccines at school didn't make me want to depend on government.

I was fortunate enough to be able to go home for lunch and have a hot meal. There are many children nowadays who are not so lucky, and God forbid they get their meals at school.

I also never thought that having taxes prepared at a school would lead to dependence on government. Maybe there are people who can't afford to drop a couple of hundred dollars to pay someone to do their taxes. Did that ever cross Mr. Wick's mind?
