Catherine T. Burroughs

Catherine T. Burroughs, 97, passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, May 13, 2012.

She was born on her family's working farm in Stafford County on July 20, 1914. She moved to Washington, D.C., and, in 1939, married her late beloved husband, John W. Burroughs, a business owner.

Mrs. Burroughs was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, indoor and outdoor gardening, and sewing tailored clothing for herself and her family. She had a great love for dachshund dogs, owning three during her lifetime. After her husband's death, Mrs. Burroughs moved to the Virginian Retirement Community in Fairfax, in June 1990. She lived there happily for 22 years, during which time she served on a number of committees, her favorites being the Outdoor Landscape Committee, the Dolls Project for sick children at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Vespers and yearly white elephant sales.

Predeceasing Mrs. Burroughs were her brothers, Charles and Blake Tolson, and sisters Mary Sanders and Raye Henley. She leaves behind a large, loving family of several generations too numerous to name individually.

Friends may call at 11 a.m. Monday, May 21, at Money & King Funeral Home in Vienna. A service will be held at noon, followed by a 2 p.m. interment at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, Md.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.
