Letter criticizing Wittman off the mark

In his May 9 letter to the editor ["Wittman deceives voters; try Cook instead"], Bob Lindsey said the Northern Neck did not receive any aid from the supplemental appropriations bill to extend broadband coverage because Rep. Rob Wittman voted against this bill and "federal agencies do not generally apportion aid to a district whose congressman voted against it."

I worked for more than 30 years for the federal government, and I believe Mr. Lindsey's assertion is false. I doubt that he could provide any evidence that funds appropriated by the bill were deliberately withheld from the Northern Neck because of Rep. Wittman's vote.

As to some of Mr. Lindsey's other complaints, including the alleged vote against the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, I will say that I trust Mr. Wittman's judgment. I don't even know Lilly Ledbetter. This sounds to me like another liberal Democratic Party program to have a federal agent in Washington decide if Lilly Ledbetter is receiving fair pay.

I may not agree with Mr. Wittman on all issues, but I have known him for about 20 years since he became involved in Montross politics, and I know that he is a solid, trustworthy man. He is intelligent, hardworking, committed to public service and family values, faithful in worship attendance, and receptive to new ideas.

We need more congressmen like him.
