The Culpeper town Police Department is looking for a man and a woman suspected of pistol-whipping a man in his apartment and robbing him of jewelry and a "substantial" sum of money he was saving to help pay for a relative's funeral.
Felony arrest warrants have been obtained for Terell C. Poteat, 25, and 18-year-old Christina N. Jenkins, according to town police spokesman Wally Bunker.
Poteat has been charged with robbery, malicious wounding and cutting stabbing or wounding. Jenkins is being sought on robbery and burglary charges.
"We came upon some evidence Wednesday that pointed us in the direction of Poteat and Jenkins," said Detective Luke Altman.
The victim told police that he recognized the suspects as a couple he had seen earlier Friday night at a Main Street 7-Eleven.
A search of the couple's residence provided police with additional evidence, Bunker said. Poteat and Jenkins, however, cannot be located.
Poteat is black, about 5-foot-10 and 160 to 175 pounds. Jenkins is white with blond hair and blue eyes, about 5-foot-9 and 140 pounds.
The two match the descriptions the victim gave police of the robbery suspects. Police warned that the pair may be armed with a handgun.
Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 540/727-0300.
