Hambrics celebrate 50th anniversary

Mr. Harry N. "Hap" Hambric and Mrs. Jytte Steen Hambric celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at a garden party held at their residence with 70 guests in attendance.

Hap and Jytte met on a blind date in Heidelberg, Germany, in the fall of 1961, while Hap was assigned to the U.S. Army Europe Honor Guard. Jytte, then a Danish citizen, attended school in Heidelberg.

They were married in Lyngby, Denmark, on May 27, 1962, in an 800-year-old church her family attended.

They returned to Heidelberg to finish Hap's tour, and then returned to "the States." Twenty-two years and two children (Anna Louise and Steen Harry) later, Hap made the decision to retire from the military with 22 years of service.

After retiring from active duty, Hap served as a Department of the Army Civilian and completed his 23-year career in 2005, as Science Advisor, U.S. Southern Command.

Hap and Jytte look forward to enjoying many more years in Fredericksburg.
