(AH) I am happily married to Matt and mom to Tommy, Aaron and Michaela.
EDUCATION: (LCN) Associate of Arts degree from Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif. I was working on my Bachelor of Science degree from California State Polytechnic University Pomona in Pomona, Calif., when I moved to Virginia. One day I hope to complete that degree.
(AH) Associate of Applied Science degree in veterinary technology from Northern Virginia Community College.
WHAT DID YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GREW UP?
(AH) I wanted to be a veterinarian when I grew up.
HOW DID YOU END UP OWNING PET'S CHOICE INC.? We are sisters-in-law and we were working together at a veterinary hospital in Northern Virginia. The idea of starting PCI developed during our long commute together, which seemed to be getting longer every day. We knew we still wanted to work with animals and believed we could offer pet owners in the Fredericksburg area an at-home option when they went away. We felt that Pet's Choice would allow the flexibility we needed for our growing families as well as provide the professional fulfillment we were looking for.
WHAT IS THE BIGGEST DECISION YOU'RE WRESTLING WITH NOW? (LCN) For me, our biggest challenge has always been finding quality employees who will represent Pet's Choice the way we do. The pet-sitting industry as a whole has a high rate of staff turnover. We have been extremely lucky to retain most of our current staff for years.
(AH) I think our biggest challenge right now is discovering new pathways to keep our business growing and thriving. Reaching new clients, expanding and educating our staff, and discovering new products and services that appeal to our current and potential clients are all things we are currently working on.
