An argument that led to a late Sunday confrontation between a Stafford couple turned violent and ended with the husband's arrest on an attempted murder charge, according to the Stafford Sheriff's Office.
The problem started during the day when the husband and wife began arguing, sheriff's spokesman Bill Kennedy said. She eventually left the Aquia Harbor home.
She returned at around 11 p.m. to pick up some things and that's when the attack happened, Kennedy said.
While the woman was at the home on Harpoon Drive, her husband, Corey Daniel Reynolds, showed up and they began arguing again, Kennedy said.
Kennedy said that's when Reynolds, 27, started roughing her up, grabbing her by the hair and dragging her around the house.
They ended up in the garage where, according to Kennedy, Reynolds held her down and choked her.
He said the victim managed to get loose and went back into the house to call 911, but her husband took the phone from her and yanked the cord from the wall.
Kennedy said the husband then got a knife, cut his wife on the face and threatened to kill her.
The woman managed to get outside the house, where she saw a pickup truck parked in the driveway with a man inside it. Kennedy said she asked the man to call 911, but he did nothing. Kennedy said they have not determined who the man is or what he was doing there.
At that point, Kennedy said, Reynolds pulled his wife back inside the house and again assaulted her. She managed to get away again and this time went to a neighbor's home and got him to call 911.
When deputies arrived, Reynolds and his car were gone. The car was later found abandoned in a parking lot in Aquia Harbor.
Investigators learned that Reynolds, a Marine, possibly would be on the nearby Quantico base. Authorities there found him Tuesday morning at a residence on base and arrested him.
Reynolds, who is being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond, faces charges of attempted murder, abduction, malicious wounding and preventing a 911 call.
