Fire destroys home in southern Stafford

No one was injured in a fire that destroyed a house off U.S. 17 in Hartwood Saturday afternoon.

The house on Hartlake Drive in Hartlake Estates was engulfed in flames when fire crews arrived, said Mark Doyle, Stafford County's fire and rescue spokesman.

Fauquier County received the first 911 call at 4:08 p.m. Doyle said the house is on the Fauquier-Stafford line.

Firefighters from several Stafford companies, including Hartwood, Stafford, Falmouth, Garrisonville, White Oak and Rock Hill, and from Fauquier battled the blaze.

The house was a total loss, Doyle said, and the displaced family has been assisted by the Red Cross.

Doyle said the cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Stafford public safety crews have been working around the clock since Friday's violent storms. Doyle said they responded to another house fire off Ferry Road Friday. He said the house was not destroyed, and the cause remains under investigation.
