A convicted sex offender is behind bars after being on the run for two months.
John Clifton Christoph Jr., 26, of the Frog Level area of Caroline County was convicted in May of carnal knowledge of a 14-year-old and distributing drugs to a minor.
As part of a plea agreement in Caroline Circuit Court, Christoph was ordered to register as a sex offender and spend five years in jail.
The agreement, in which four other charges were dropped, also allowed him "three days to get his personal matters in order" prior to reporting to Pamunkey Regional Jail, said Caroline Sheriff Tony Lippa.
When Christoph did not report to jail on May 10, a warrant was issued, Lippa said.
On Tuesday, deputies received a tip that Christoph was in the Frog Level area. When they arrived, Lippa said, they saw Christoph flee into the woods.
Deputies and canine units from Caroline, Spotsylvania and Hanover counties followed Christoph for nearly four hours before the trail went cold, Lippa said.
The sheriff said investigators learned that Christoph had been picked up and taken to Henrico County.
About an hour later, deputies received another tip that Christoph was back in the Frog Level area, where he was arrested without further incident, Lippa said.
"Christoph is once again in custody and where he belongs--in jail," Lippa said.
Christoph may face additional charges, Lippa said.
