Clyde Thomas Pipes, 85, of Rapidan passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville. He was born Feb. 12, 1927, in Lenoir, N.C., the son of the late James Henry and Bessie Mann Pipes.
Clyde was a Navy veteran of WWII, a retired merchant in Orange County, past member of the Lions Club in Warwick, a volunteer for the Friends of the Library and a member of the Young at Hearts club.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Catherine Pipes Blatz.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Garnett "Betty" Pipes, with whom he celebrated sixty years of wedded bliss on July 13, of Rapidan; daughter Cindy Pipes Johnson and her husband, Chuck, of Petersburg, Fla.; and a grandson, Warren "Buddy" Dundas Blatz of Charlottesville.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 22, at Preddy Funeral Home, 250 W. Main St., Orange. The Rev. Jerry Hall will officiate.
