Garrisonville road project completed

A nearly $1 million turn-lane project on Stafford's Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) has been completed, the Virginia Department of Transportation announced Wednesday.

The project added a second turn lane on westbound Route 610 to help with the traffic turning onto Mine Road, and an additional right turn lane was added to Mine Road to handle traffic turning onto eastbound Route 610, said VDOT's Kelly Hannon.

There also was a sidewalk added to Mine Road, which connects to the sidewalk on 610. Pedestrian crossing buttons also were added to the traffic signal poles.

The contractor, General Excavation, also repainted the lane markings for the new traffic pattern.

The project, started in March, was completed on time and cost $975,443.
