BY RICHARD AMRHINE

If you've ever pictured what a secluded, postcard-perfect property in Stafford County looks like, this may be it.

Tucked away off Walnut Drive but just minutes from the Leland Road VRE station, 24 Rita Lane is an island of tranquility, with a swimming pool, separate combination 8-car garage and horse stable and four acres of white-fenced pasture.

The house is a combination of brick and siding. Built in 1998 by the late local builder Larry Sullivan, it is ranch-style with a full finished basement, providing 4,700 square feet of living space. There are five bedrooms and three full bathrooms.

The construction date is a deceiving indicator of the home's overall condition. Thanks to a thorough renovation in 2007, the interior looks fresh and new throughout.

Now that owners Daryll and Kelly Hovey are empty nesters, they've decided it's time to move on. They've listed the property with Peter Romani of Long & Foster Realtors in Fredericksburg. The asking price is $788,000.

PLEASANT SETTING

The beauty of the property begins with the 4-acre lot and how its features are configured. The terrain is slightly rolling, with a large cleared area surrounded by wooded areas for privacy. Portions of the open area are defined by classic white fencing, including a pasture where a pair of horses were passing time earlier this week.

A paved lane leads to a circular driveway that serves both the house and the large garage and stable. An automobile collector who has been active with the Barrett-Jackson Auction Co., Daryll Hovey houses his collectible automobiles there. The garage is as tidy as it can be and has a floor that's been treated with UCoat It epoxy.

The garage structure also houses two horse paddocks and a tack room. Other outbuildings include a run-in shed and an equipment shed.

The centerpiece of the property is the house, with a rear deck, an adjacent swimming pool, attached two-car garage and plenty of surrounding open space for entertaining and family fun.

The main entrance opens to a foyer with the formal dining room on the right and a living room to the left that could serve as a home office.
