Children hurt when vehicle hits bicycle

Two children sharing a bicycle were hit by a car Wednesday night in the Berea area of Stafford County, according to the Sheriff's Office.

The 11-year-old girls were both transported to Mary Washington Hospital. There was no word Thursday afternoon on their condition.

A woman was driving on South Gateway Drive near England Run sometime after dark Wednesday when she got to the intersection with Noble Court, said spokesman Bill Kennedy. There, the vehicle hit the bike that the two children were riding. Kennedy did not think the injuries were life-threatening.

The incident is still under investigation.

This was at least the second time this month that area children have been hit by a vehicle while riding a bike.

On Aug. 15, a teenage boy and his 4-year-old brother escaped serious injury when a bicycle they were riding on pulled into the path of a turning car and was struck, police said.

Also Wednesday night, a woman died in a fiery accident on Interstate 95.
