George D. Moerman Sr., 81, of Springfield died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at his daughter's home.
Mr. Moerman attended St. John's University, where he studied law. Upon graduation he became an attorney in private practice with his father, Sidney Moerman. On June 17, 1955, he married Joyce Patrice Schmitz in El Paso, Texas.
After serving in the U.S. Army he joined the Department of Veterans Affairs. Mr. Moerman retired as assistant director of loan policy for the Veterans Administration in 1989, after 33 years of service.
Survivors include his children, George D. Moerman Jr. and wife Rose M. of Springfield, Jennifer Purcell and husband Daniel F. Sr. of Stafford County and Allyson Moerman and husband John S. Whitten of Stafford;
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 23, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A Mass of celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, at St. Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at 1:30 p.m. in Quantico National Cemetery.
