About a year ago I read an article about the Fairy Godmother Project, a 100 percent volunteer organization created to support families who have a child with cancer ["'Godmothers' a godsend," Oct. 10, 2011]. I'm now a volunteer and am realizing firsthand the impact of helping people I do not know because I can.
Fairy Godmothers provide home-cooked meals, clean houses, mow grass, cut hair, take professional photographs, and the like. There are currently seven local families supported by the project, but more could be served if there were more volunteers! If you'd like to know more, visit fairygodmotherproject.org.
