Cline Dwight Barton Jr., 73, died Oct. 16, 2012, at Health South Rehabilitation Hospital.
Cline was born in Buffalo, N.Y., and raised in Richmond. He graduated from John Marshall High School in Richmond and the University of Richmond. He also received a degree from the University of Virginia.
Cline was formerly on the board of HFFI (Historic Fredericksburg Foundation Inc.) and in the vestry and choir at St. George's Episcopal Church. He taught at the University of Richmond and at James Monroe High School. He retired from RL Banks and Associates as a transportation analyst and began his second career as a cabinetmaker. His first love was building 18th-century reproductions.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Judith Hawkins Barton; four children, Elizabeth Durden, Kathryn Canning, Anne Carey Endler and husband Shawn, and Cline Barton III; and five grandchildren, Patrick, Sarah and Ben Canning, and Avery and Olivia Endler. He is also survived by one brother, James Ross Barton and his wife, Jane of Fairfax; niece Beth Harding and husband Jeff of Havelock, N.C., and nephew James Ross Barton Jr. and wife Jeannie of Richmond.
The family will receive friends Thursday, Oct. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins & Thompson Funeral Service, 1621 Jefferson Davis Highway, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 11 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, Friday, Oct. 19.
