Patty and Stephen Lipscomb of Spotsylvania County recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
Their sons, Stephen II and wife Debra of Fredericksburg and Darrin and wife Debbie of Easton, Md., provided a surprise trip, via limo, to the D.C. waterfront, where they experienced an elegant escape on the water with an Odyssey cruise. The night was filled with good times--dinner, dancing and enjoyment of the sights surrounding the Potomac. Their four grandchildren, Stephanie, Sam, Will and George Stephen, also enjoyed the family event.
Patty and Stephen came to the Fredericksburg area in 1967 because of employment at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC). Sixteen years later, Stephen took a position at the University of Mary Washington. He retired in 2003 as Professor Emeritus of Mathematics. After their sons were teenagers, Patty received her degree from UMW and later took a group leader position at NSWC, where she retired in 2006.
