The incomparable Robert J. Heppe, 86, of Fredericksburg died Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at Emeritus at Wilburn Gardens.
He was born June 16, 1926, in New York City, to Paula Better Heppe and Kurt Heppe.
Defined by his humanity, humor and intellect, Robert Heppe made an indelible impression on those he met. He was exceptionally attuned to the love of his life, Eleanor, and to his entire family.
Always quick with a quip, pun or humorous story, Robert engaged with people easily. This masked a formidable mind that led him to achievements in electrical engineering, orbital mechanics and computer science.
Named as one of the most valuable of the tens of thousands of employees at Computer Sciences Corporation, Robert served our country by providing invaluable expertise to our military over many decades.
Robert leaves a legacy of hard work, clear thinking and service to others. His legendary wit and accomplishments will live on in those who knew him to serve as a model for future generations.
Robert is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Eleanor; and his three sons, Stephen and his wife, Mary Jane, of Hood River, Ore., Howard and his wife, Margaret Ann, of Spotsylvania County and Richard and his wife, Diane Reeder, of Cherry Hills, Colo. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lindsay and her husband, Trevor, Kenan, Vaughan, Sara, Scott and his wife, Erica, Andrew, Grayson and Cameron. As Robert would have said, "All my grandchildren are great grandchildren."
Services will be private.
