Set tails a-waggin'
Local training center collects supplies for Sandy-affected animals

Date published: 11/7/2012

THE FREDERICKSBURG region may have largely escaped Frankenstorm Sandy's wrath, but folks to our north did not--and neither did their four-legged friends. Animal shelters are overflowing with critters, and they desperately need our help.

Hereabouts, the good people at Pup 'N Iron Canine Fitness and Learning Center (their motto should be "We'll even help cats!") are collecting supplies to help out. They need donations of pet food, blankets, linens, towels, flashlights, batteries, bleach, laundry soap, rubber gloves, and (yes) cat litter.

They will see that these supplies get to shelters in New Jersey and New York. Donations can be dropped off at Pup 'N Iron, 21 Perchwood Drive, Unit 111, between 6 a.m. and 9 p.m. Monday thorough Thursday and from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Friday. For directions to the center, go to pupniron.com/directions .cfm on the Web or call 540/659-7614. Readers who need to drop off donations over the weekend should email
Email: info@pupniron.com to arrange a time.

The need is great--more bad weather (cold and rain) is forecast for the New York-New Jersey area. Here's a chance to warm hearts by filling the bellies of pets in need.
