If there aren't Carl's chocolate malts in those cups, Alan Arkin and Ben Affleck are just wasting their time.

HH "ALEX CROSS" (PG-13) Tyler Perry's first action outing is a dud, with a dull plot but a decent crazed criminal. Rated PG-13 for violence including disturbing images, sexual content, language, drug references, and nudity. 101 min. [RF]

HHH "ARGO" (R) This retelling of a plan to get hidden hostages out of Iran--with agents posing as a Canadian film crew making a sci-fi film--is perfectly paced and grippingly told, the best film of the year so far. Rated R for language and violent images. 120 min. [PV, RA]

HH "CHASING MAVERICKS" (PG) The shore-bound parts of this film about an extreme surfing challenge feel a bit flat, but there's something compelling about a youngster's dream of tackling the biggest wave. Rated PG for thematic elements, perilous action. 116 min. [MC, RF]

HH "CLOUD ATLAS" (R) While this is a big mess--too many characters in too many stories--it's a collection that can be enjoyed a piece at a time. Rated R for violence, language, sexuality/nudity, drug use. 172 min. [PV]

HH "FUN SIZE" (PG-13) This tale of a young girl who loses her brother on Halloween is good for young teens, but so small it feels better suited to Nickelodeon. Rated PG-13 for partying, language, crude and suggestive material. 90 min. [MC, RA]

HH "HERE COMES THE BOOM" (PG) Kevin James is talented, but can't save this film that strains credibility by casting him as a martial arts fighter trying to save his school. Rated PG for rude humor, language and sport violence. 105 min. [RF]

HH "HOUSE AT THE END OF THE STREET" (PG-13) Jennifer Lawrence makes this thriller, about a house where dark secrets linger, better than expected. Rated PG-13 for intense sequences of violence and terror, thematic elements, language, teen partying and brief drug material. 101 min. [RF]

HH "HOTEL TRANSYLVANIA" (PG) While nothing deep, this tale of Dracula worrying about his daughter leaving the nest is funny and fine for kids. Rated PG for some rude humor, action and scary images. 95 min. [MC, RA, RF]

H "PARANORMAL ACTIVITY 4" (R) Originally a captivating phenomenon, this found-footage stuff is old now, and its tricks are tired. Rated R for language and some violence/terror. 95 min. [MC, PV, RA]

HHH "THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER" (PG-13) Emma Watson is sweetly compelling in this solid coming-of-age tale about a high school freshman coping with high school and his own tragedy. Rated PG-13 for mature material, drug and alcohol use, sexual content, a fight, with teens. 101 min. [PV]

HH "PITCH PERFECT" (PG-13) There are really funny moments in this comedy about a college choral group, but weak ones too. Rated PG-13 for sexual material, language, drug references. 112 min. [PV]

H "SILENT HILL: REVELATION" (R) This needless sequel is nothing more than horrific scenes cobbled together, making little sense. Rated R for violence, disturbing images, language, brief nudity. 95 min. [MC, PV, RA]

HH "SINISTER" (R) There are scary moments in this story of a man who finds evil in the house he moves into, but not enough happens to capitalize on them. Rated R for disturbing violent images and some terror. 109 min. [MC, PV]

HH "TAKEN 2" (PG-13) Though not as good as the original, there's still plenty of action--and Liam Neeson as the guy kidnappers shouldn't steal from. Rated PG-13 for intense violence, action, some sensuality. 92 min. [MC, PV, RA]
