A man who claimed to be in the Fredericksburg area looking for his sister's house showed up at Mary Washington Hospital on Thursday night with a gunshot wound, police said.

Fredericksburg police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said officers went to the hospital about 8 p.m. to investigate a report that a 25-year-old Richmond man had arrived at the hospital in a private vehicle with a gunshot wound to his leg.

Three other people, two woman and a man, were with him. All live in the Richmond area, Bledsoe said, though all have criminal history in this area.

The victim told police that the group was in the area of the 7-Eleven on Dixon Street in the city when he got out to look for his sister's home. The man said he heard what sounded like firecrackers just before feeling a sharp pain in his shin.

His friends took him to the hospital after seeing that his leg was bleeding.

Bledsoe said the three friends told similar stories, though some of the details differed. Police were told the shooting occurred in the 7-Eleven parking lot, behind the store and on a street near the store.

The victim was treated and he and two of his friends were released. One of the women, 22-year-old Christina Hilliard, was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail after police learned she is wanted in Stafford County on a charge of failure to appear in court.

Bledsoe said no one in the Mayfield or 7-Eleven areas reported hearing gunfire or firecrackers Thursday evening.
