Anna Mary Hagerty, 96, of Fredericksburg, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 20, 2012, at her home.
Mrs. Hagerty was born Aug. 14, 1916, to the late Thomas Kehoe and Emma Hann Kehoe of Hingham, Mass., and was the youngest of seven children. When Anna was 2, her mother passed away in the influenza epidemic of 1918. Mrs. Hagerty's father then went to Prince Edward Island and married Emma's older sister, Mary, reuniting their families.
Mrs. Hagerty graduated from Hingham High School in 1934 and married William Francis Hagerty in 1940. They both worked for the Railway Express Agency, and he was transferred to Martha's Vineyard in 1949. Mrs. Hagerty also worked as a waitress and baker and enjoyed helping her husband refinish furniture. Her most important job was being a homemaker and mother to her five children and many grandchildren. She moved to Fredericksburg four years ago.
Survivors include children Robert Hagerty, Jean Francis (Kenneth) and Joan Duggan (William); her grandchildren, Kenneth James Francis Jr. of Spotsylvania County, Karin Cassidy of Fredericksburg, William Thomas Francis of Rehoboth, Mass., William Duggan of Mystic, Conn., Anthony Duggan of London, England, James Hagerty of Washington, D.C., Channing Hagerty of Edgartown, Mass., Daniel Hagerty of Cambridge, Mass., Elizabeth Hagerty of Marion, N.C., and Jennifer Hagerty of Quincy, Mass.; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son William Thomas Hagerty, who died in Vietnam on Nov. 20, 1967; and daughter Janet Hagerty, who died June 25, 2001.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Interment will be at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery on Martha's Vineyard.
