Homes evacuated after gas leak
Residents of several homes in the College Heights neighborhood in Fredericksburg were evacuated Monday night when a natural gas line was damaged by workers on a city water line.
The incident occurred about 10:20 p.m. in the 1400 block of Brent Street, according to Natatia Bledsoe, city police spokeswoman.
She said the homes evacuated were near the intersection of Brent Street and Rappahannock Avenue.
Workers from Columbia Gas were on the scene.
A city bus was sent to the area to accommodate those who had to leave their homes. They were expected to be out of their homes for a few hours.
