Freeman William Bennett, 85, of Spotsylvania County passed away Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.

Mr. Bennett enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching sports.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Mildred Bennett; children, Jo Ann Leitch of Richmond, Marsha Leigh Tolley and husband Jeb of Virginia Beach and Gary William Bennett and wife Cindy of Stafford County; brothers James Raymond Bennett of Maryland and Hershel Welsh Bennett of Spotsylvania; half brother Robert Passwater of Lincon, Del., and sisters Janie Clifton of Milton, Del. Jennie Walker of Alabama and Kelly Pettyjohn of Milton; grandchildren Chris Leitch, Emily Cable, Sara Sullivan, Trent Tolley, Nicolas Tolley, Heather Payton and Matthew Bennett; and great-grandchildren Mary Leitch, Madeleine Leitch, Ella Cable, Freeman Sullivan, Lauren Bennett and Rachel Payton.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hershel William Bennett and Annie Irene Bennett; a sister, Arlene Mabel Reeve; a brother, Edward Alvin Bennett, and half brother Dick Passwater.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3, at Round Oak Baptist Church, with the Rev. Randolph M. Newsome officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
