A Fredericksburg man was robbed at gunpoint Sunday night while he was loading a box into his car, police said.
The incident took place about 9 p.m. near the intersection of Monument Avenue and Franklin Street, city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
The 27-year-old victim lives on Monument but his car was parked on Franklin.
As he was putting the box in his trunk, Bledsoe said, the victim felt someone touch his shoulder. He turned around to see a man pointing a handgun toward his face while demanding his wallet.
The victim quickly handed over the wallet, which he told police had less than $100 cash and various cards.
The robber took the wallet and was last seen running toward Sunken Road. A police dog ran a track that led up Sunken toward the U.S. 1 Bypass below the University of Mary Washington, but the gunman was not found.
The robber was described as a black man, 20 to 30 years old, and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. He has short black hair and wore a bandanna over his face.
Anyone with information is asked to call city police at 540/373-3122.
