Police say a Triangle woman who arranged the robbery of a Fredericksburg man was accidently shot and now faces charges.

Prince William County police responded to the 18200 block of Graham Court in Triangle on Monday afternoon to investigate a shooting.

According to Jonathan Perok, spokesman for the county Police Department, a 42-year-old man from Fredericksburg and a 23-year-old woman from Triangle met up with a female acquaintance in Dumfries Shopping Plaza and went to Graham Court to meet with an unknown man.

Perok said that when the three arrived, a man approached the vehicle, displayed a handgun and demanded money from the Fredericksburg man, who was sitting in the back seat of the vehicle.

The gunman took an undisclosed amount of cash from the victim before striking him on the head with the gun, Perok said.

During the assault, the handgun discharged and struck the Triangle woman in the upper body, Perok said.

The female acquaintance then drove to the nearby Dumfries-Triangle Rescue Station, where rescue personnel aided the victims, Perok said.

The female shooting victim was flown by helicopter and the male victim transported by ambulance to area hospitals. Both suffered non-life-threatening injuries, Perok said.

After an investigation by the Violent Crimes Bureau, detectives learned that the woman who was shot was actually involved in the incident along with the unknown gunman.

"The female victim, now the accused, had arranged the meeting to take place near the cul-de-sac and had been inadvertently shot during the encounter," Perok said.

Sandra Lynn McKelvey of Kilmer Lance in Triangle is charged with robbery and malicious wounding.

The male victim and the female acquaintance were not involved in the arrangement, Perok said.

He said detectives are still working to identify the gunman.

He was described as a black man, 20 to 25 years old, 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighing 140 pounds. He has a thin build and short black hair, and was last seen wearing a black beanie-style hat and a black jacket with two horizontal red stripes on the left upper sleeve.
