John ("Root") and Marie Thomas of Stafford County celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary Dec. 6, 2012. The couple's two children, Michele Griffin and Chris Thomas, hosted a surprise dinner in their honor at the Fredericksburg Country Club, with full limousine service.
Also present were their son-in-law John Griffin; Chris' fiancee, Tammy Ranagan; Tammy's son, Jordan Burgos; and grandchildren Cameron Vida, Colby Thomas and Emily Griffin. Mrs. Thomas' matron of honor, Mary Conway Berry, was a surprise dinner guest.
An anniversary cake was made by Amanda Sorby, "Sorby Sweets," using the Thomases' original wedding cake topper. A family picture collage from Mrs. Thomas' cedar chest was displayed.
Mr. and Mrs. Thomas were married on Dec. 8, 1962, at Trinity Episcopal Church in Fredericksburg. They have spent their entire lives in Fredericksburg, enjoying family and lifelong friends. Mr. Thomas is owner of MJ Printers Inc. and Mrs. Thomas has been employed by Fredericksburg public schools for over 35 years.
