A gun ad next to the shooting story? Why?

A gun ad next to the shooting story? Why?

While reading coverage of the Sandy Hook shooting in the Dec. 17 issue, barely able to choke back tears, I couldn't help but notice the prominent gun advertisement on the bottom of Page A8.

The text of that entire page was about the Sandy Hook shooting and local fallout. It seems awfully careless and coldhearted to put this particular gun ad (which promoted giving guns as Christmas gifts) on that particular page.

I know the store owner paid for his ad to be in the paper, but why didn't someone notice the tasteless page layout before going to print?
