An alert Stafford neighbor helped police stop one burglary and solve at least one other, police said.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Bill Kennedy said Deputy Ron Jones went to Lake Arrowhead Tuesday morning in response to a reported burglary in progress. A man said he a young man put a bicycle in a ditch on Boundary Lane and walk around the corner to his neighbor's home on Beech Drive.
The suspect knocked on the front door, then looked in the windows before jumping a fence and going to the back of the house. The neighbor, knowing that no one was home, went to the back yard to confront the suspect.
After hearing the neighbor outside, Kennedy said, the suspect jumped from inside the home through a window screen and landed on the back porch. He then ran back to the bike and rode away.
Deputy Jones spotted the man a short time later and took him into custody. The subsequent investigation showed that nothing was missing from the home on Beech Drive, but police were able to tie the suspect to another recent burglary in the area.
Dejuan Antonio Leavell, 20, who lives on Boundary Lane, is charged with breaking and entering, conspiracy to commit burglary, grand larceny, and larceny with the intent to sell.
Kennedy said Leavell and others are being investigated in connection with several other recent burglaries in the Lake Arrowhead area. More charges are pending, he said.
Leavell was placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under no bond.
