Joseph D. Aivaz of Port Ewen, N.Y., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012, at Benedictine Hospital, Kingston, N.Y. He was 77.
He was born Nov. 3, 1935, in the Bronx, a son of the late Michael and Mary Wagner Aivaz.
Mr. Aivaz had retired from the Air Force as a captain, serving in Korea and Vietnam. Following his military service, he was employed as a systems analyst for IBM in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. He had been a resident of Toms River, N.J., for many years. He received his U.S. Coast Guard Masters License and enjoyed sailing up and down the Atlantic Coast. He also enjoyed computers.
Surviving is his wife, Stephanie Zimmer Aivaz; two daughters, retired Marine Capt. Susan Schindler of Fredericksburg and Faun Elzein of Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, Mark Aivaz of Lancaster, S.C., and David Aivaz of Poughkeepsie; two stepdaughters, Donna Marie Boonjamalik of Beacon, N.Y., and Bridget Boucher of Hyde Park, N.Y.; and a stepson, Neal S. Falcone of Wake Forest, N.C. Eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.
Paul Geary of Keyser Funeral & Cremation Service, 216 Broadway, Port Ewen, N.Y., is handling the arrangements. Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 28. Cremation will be in Wiltwyck Cemetery.
