As the father of a precious 10-year-old girl, I cannot fathom sending my daughter to school and never seeing her again. My heart breaks for the families of all the victims of the recent school shooting.
This should galvanize everyone to have a national conversation on how we can prevent this type of senseless tragedy from ever happening again. And in this conversation, nothing--not one idea--should be off the table.
Banning assault-style weapons and high-capacity clips would be a start. Close the gun-show loophole and require a gun-safety course for all gun buyers. Put law-enforcement officers at every school. And, yes, give teachers the option of being armed while in their classroom.
As the husband of a school teacher, my wife and I disagree on this. She is against it, I am for it. If a gunman breaks into her classroom, I don't want her only defense to be throwing pencils at him.
I think we as a country have a moral obligation to do everything in our power to protect the children.
