Harvey Hees Brown, 94, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Regency Park in Gambrills, Md.
He was born Oct. 28, 1918, in Spring Valley, Ill., to Roy W. and Grace M. Brown.
He graduated from MIT in 1940, and went to work for Lockheed in Burbank, Calif. He served in the Navy as an ensign when World War II broke out, and then continued to work for Lockheed. He went to work for the NACA (later NASA) at Ames Research Center, where he met Eileen Ruth, whom he later married after moving to Washington, D.C. He served as chief of the Loads and Structures Branch at NASA and retired in 1970. In retirement he served more than 25 years as a volunteer docent at the Paul E. Garber facility of the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, and also served for many years as an election judge.
He was predeceased by his wife, Eileen Brown; daughter Rebecca Hillegass; sister Irene Brown; and brother Maclean Brown.
Survivors include his son, Jeffrey Brown (Michele) and daughter Susan Sparks (Martin), of Spotsylvania County; brother Roy W. Brown (Frances); three grandchildren, Michael, Gary and Allison Hillegass; and three great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 10, at family-owned Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway (Route 3 South), Bowie, Md. Interment will be in Peru City Cemetery in Peru, Ill.
