Culpeper man dies in Haymarket-area crash

A Culpeper man was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Prince William County early Wednesday.

Jonathan Perok of the Prince William County Police Department said officers responded to an incident at James Madison Highway and Stepping Stone Drive in Haymarket at 5:18 a.m.

The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling northbound on James Madison Highway when the vehicle ran into the rear of a 1996 Volvo WCA log truck.

The log truck was stopped at a red light, Perok said, and was just beginning to accelerate after the light changed when it was struck.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Don Allen Fincham, 50, of Culpeper was transported to an area hospital, where he later died. He was not wearing his seat belt, Perok said.

The driver of the log truck, a 51-year-old Culpeper man, was not injured.

Perok said speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to be factors in the accident. An investigation is ongoing.
