Carolyn H. Johnson

Carolyn Hamilton Johnson, 64, of Fredericksburg died unexpectedly Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Carolyn was born July 1, 1948, in Galveston, Texas, to Ruth Womack Hamilton and Bennie Hamilton. She attended public schools in both Galveston and LaMarque, Texas. She was an active member of Lincoln High School's class of 1966 and a graduate of Central High School's class of 1967.

She was a licensed practical nurse (LPN) for more than 40 years. Her employment included Union Carbide, Texas City, Texas; UTMB, Galveston, Texas; Mary Washington Hospital in Fredericksburg; the Rappahannock Regional Jail in Fredericksburg; and most recently, Coffeewood Correctional Center in Culpeper.

She is survived by three adoring daughters, Deirdre Taylor-Scales (Terry) of Council Bluffs, Crystal Ruth Johnson of Richmond and Christi Rene Johnson-Garcia of Beaufort, S.C. She will also be sadly missed by her beloved grandsons, Halston Williams, Stetson Williams, Christian Garcia and Cameron Jones; a great-granddaughter, Harmoni Williams; sisters Andrea Annette Poitier (Reginald) of Atlanta, Yolanda Yvette Hamilton of Texas City, Tracie Hamilton (Richard) of Canada, Samantha Hamilton Kirks (Derrick) of Houston, Bobbie Hamilton Holman of Texas City and Chloe Hamilton of Galveston; and brothers Bennie "Bubba"Hamilton (Cynthia), Randy Hamilton (Lydia), Larry Hamilton, Lloyd "Woody" Hamilton and Michael Hamilton. Also mourning her passing are her aunts, Mrs. Doris Banks, Ms. Dorothy Johnson, Ms. Jocelyn Matthews; uncle James Womack of Colorado; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other close relatives and dear friends and co-workers.

She was preceded in death by grandparents Viola and Lloyd Woodrow Womack, Rufus Hamilton Sr. and Gussie Williams Mobley; parents Ruth Womack Hamilton and Bennie Hamilton Sr.; and uncles Jessie Womack and Rufus Hamilton Jr.

A memorial service will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, at A.L. Bennett and Son Funeral Home, 200 Butternut Drive, Fredericksburg, Va. 22408.
