Myles B. Mitchell

Myles Barton Mitchell passed away Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at the age of 87.

Myles was the loving husband of Beth Mitchell, who predeceased him in 2009, after sharing almost 60 wonderful years of marriage. They raised a family, worked hard, traveled and enjoyed feeding and entertaining family and friends. Beyond his professional life, Myles had many interests and talents that kept him always learning and exploring such things as music, gardening, fishing, building and cooking.

Myles was born July 29, 1925, in Webster Groves, Mo. He was the son of Earl H. Mitchell and Hester D. Mitchell.

After serving our country in World War II, Myles came home and went to college on the G.I. Bill. He graduated from Oklahoma A&M with a master's in aeronautical engineering. His professional life began by working on the propulsion system for the first F-4 jets. Soon afterward, he was involved in the Mercury and Apollo space programs. In the late '60s, Myles took a government job as the director of High Speed Ground Transportation for the Department of Transportation. Myles finished his work life as a private consultant for several international corporations.

Myles is survived by his three loving daughters, Linda, wife of Joseph Lalande of Manassas Park, Janet Singer of Apex, N.C., and Nancy, wife of Gregg Amicon of Glenmoore, Pa.. He was also cherished by 11 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Earl Mitchell of Missouri; a sister-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services and interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
