Darrelle Harris, 59, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at Hyder Family Hospice House in Dover, N.H., after a brief illness.
Born Sep. 17, 1953, in Dover, the daughter of the late Robert and Elizabeth F. Vigent Harris and a 1971 Dover High School graduate, she completed hundreds of hours of training and college coursework in logistics and acquisition management. She proudly served the U.S. Air Force and Marine Corps at the Pentagon and Marine Corps Base Quantico as a civilian employee for more than 30 years, with her most significant contributions as Integrated Logistic Support manager, Marine Corps System Command Amphibious Raids and Reconnaissance; and, prior to her retirement in July 2006, as MCSC Liaison Officer to the 1st Marine Expeditionary Forces in Camp Pendleton, Calif., and Camp Fallujah, Iraq. In 2007, she retired and returned to New Hampshire, where she worked with QuinetiQ NA, a world leader in defense, aerospace, technology & security from 2009 to 2012, and regularly returned to Washington, D.C., for business and pleasure.
Darrelle is survived by her mother, Elizabeth Harris of Dover; sister Cheryl Harris of Milton, N.H.; and her dear friends, Suzanne M. Tsintolas, Suzie Partyke and Debbie Webb.
A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made in Darrelle's name to The Lori Ward Memorial Trust Fund, NHSPCA, Box 196, 104 Portsmouth Ave., Stratham, N.H. 03885, which supports humane education in elementary schools throughout the New Hampshire coast.
