Ronald H. Withers, 53, of Fredericksburg died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at his home.
Survivors include his wife, Joey Withers; son Ronald Withers Jr. (Carrie); daughter Stephanie Hiner (Chad); sister Rickie Newton; brothers Raymond Withers and Robert Withers; grandchildren Landon, Abbygale and Cathrynn; and many other loving family members and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Raymond Withers and Rena Wilson Withers.
Born and raised in Fredericksburg, Ron graduated from James Monroe High School and Mary Washington College. He was employed by Safeway for 30 years and retired as an assistant store manager in 2001 due to health reasons.
His wife, constant companion and caregiver, Joey, was one of the great joys of his life. His favorite pastime was watching classic old movies. Having seen every John Wayne film ever made, he shared that passion and passed it on to his young grandson. Together they enjoyed watching spaghetti westerns and playing with their toy trains.
Ron's humor and incredible wit will be deeply missed. Despite battling a chronic illness, he never lost his sense of humor, love of life or genuine love for his family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.
A funeral service will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 21, at the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens following the service.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, Box 11454, Alexandria, Va. 22312 or to the National Kidney Foundation of Va., 1742 E. Parham Road, Richmond, Va. 23228.
