The Germanna Community College Educational Foundation will honor a prominent Fredericksburg couple with its "2013 Distinguished Person of the Year" award next month.

Charles G. "Charlie" and Mary Wynn McDaniel will receive the award during a Feb. 15 presentation at the Fredericksburg Country Club that will also include dinner and a reception.

Charlie McDaniel was the longtime president of Stafford County-based Hilldrup Moving and Storage and is now the company's chairman. He and his wife live in downtown Fredericksburg and are active in many community organizations.

"Few can match their leadership as job creators, historic preservationists and philanthropists," Bruce L. Davis, liaison to Germanna's president, said in a news release.

Mary Washington Healthcare President and CEO Fred Rankin won the award last year. Longtime area banking executive Ed Allison, former state Sen. John Chichester and retired Germanna nursing dean Jane Ingalls previously received the distinction.

The award recipient must be from Germanna's service region, a leader in his or her profession, and a person who has had a positive effect on the community with a sustained commitment to service. The Germanna foundation's Board of Directors selects the winner in consultation with the college's president.

Tickets to the Feb. 15 event cost $75 per person. People can register through the foundation's website or by calling its office at 540/423-9060. Proceeds help the foundation provide services to the college and its students and faculty.
