Drainage pipe replacement to close roads in two Spotsylvania neighborhoods Jan. 24-25

January 24, 2013 12:10 am

Spotsylvania street lane closures ahead

There will be lane closures on a pair of Spotsylvania neighborhood streets the next two days while crews take soil samples in preparation for work to replace deteriorated underground drainage pipes.

The work will be done on Plantation Forest Drive and Loriella Park Drive today and Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Flaggers will direct traffic. 7The work is similar to what was done on nearby Windsor Drive, which underwent extensive pipe replacement work after Tropical Storm Lee in September 2011. It took months to complete that project.

The heavy storms caused a washout, but the pipes had already deteriorated because of the highly acidic soil there.

Crews will take soil samples, which will be used to help "design the appropriate foundation" for the new drainage pipe, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
