Larry Eugene "Poppy" Snider Sr., 77, of Spotsylvania County passed away Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

Mr. Snider was a 1959 graduate of the University of Richmond, with a bachelor's degree in business. He worked for the federal government for more than 34 years. He was a devoted Washington Redskins fan and worked with the homeless through Fredericksburg Baptist Church, of which he was a lifetime member.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Katherine G. Snider; son Larry E. Snider Jr. and wife Rhonda; daughters Suzanne Snider, Michele Snider Dudley and husband Michael and Elizabeth Anne Pitts and husband Alan; brother Jerry D. Snider; grandchildren Griffin Dudley, Libby Dudley, Eleanor Dudley, Chad Pitts, Emma Pitts, Kelsie Snider, Justin Snider and Katherine S. Snider; and his two favorite dogs, Sophie and Lady.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph A. and Doris Snider.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 1, at Fredericksburg Baptist Church, with the Rev. J. Larry Haun and the Rev. Patti English officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Alan Pitts, Walton Pitts, Richard Pitts, Dicky Estes, Wayne Dodd and John Carneal. Honorary pallbearers will be Griffin Dudley, Chad Pitts, Justin Snider and Joe Forester.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Fredericksburg Baptist Church, 1019 Princess Anne St., Fredericksburg, Va. 22401; or to Micah Ecumenical Ministries, Box 3277, Fredericksburg, Va. 22402.
