Moses C. Burt Jr.

Moses C. Burt Jr., 81, of Fredericksburg passed away Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.

A husband, father, leader, organizer, lawyer and businessman, Moses served his community and country.

In the 1950s and '60s, he worked as an attorney and foot soldier in the civil rights movement. In the 1970s, he was a leader and advocate in equal housing and urban renewal. From the 1980s through the next decades, he was a small business owner, helper and friend to hundreds.

His work ranged from serving as president of the youth athletic association of his son's Little League sports programs, to the PTA at his kids' high school, to more recently serving as board member of the local chapter of AARP. Throughout his life, he involved himself in his community and took on leadership roles to help make it better for everyone. His small business provided him with a platform to do what he loved most in life, meeting and making new friends, and helping people.

Moses is survived by his wife, Audrey; his sisters, Anne and Gloria; and his three sons, Jeff, Byron and Marshall.

A rememberance service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Fredericksburg Weslyan Church, 130 Mosby St., Fredericksburg.
