Joyce Bowling Taylor

Joyce Bowling Taylor, 78, of Spotsylvania County, mom and retired school teacher, passed away Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer Scott Bowling and Mary Dodson Bowling; her brother, Richard; and cousin Jean Webb-Brown.

She is survived by her four children, Jean Masten Kelly and her husband, David, Vicki Masten Caylor and her husband, Wayne, Joyce Ann Taylor and John D. Taylor IV and his wife, Fran; cousins Nancy Jarrell, Wesley Bowling, Frankie Bowling and Victor Pierson; four grandkids, Carrie Raines Rinehart and her husband, Dustin, Scott Kelly and his wife, Ashley, Christopher Raines and his wife, Michelle, and Steven Caylor; and one great-granddaughter, Mahkenzie Raines.

Joyce was born in Culpeper. She attended James Madison University for her undergraduate degree and University of Virginia for her master's degree. She taught school while raising four children. She retired from Drew Middle School in Stafford County. She loved the beach in Ocean City, Md., as well as listening to music, reading and having fun, including attending Elvis tributes.

The family especially thanks her caregivers and staff at Alpha House in Hanover and Gentiva Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Joyce's name to the Alzheimer's Association.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
