Rowland K. Carver

Rowland K. Carver, 84, of Bethlehem, Pa., passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home.

He was the husband of Jean M. Walbert Carver and the late Jean McNitt Carver, who passed away in 1971.

Born in Fredericksburg, he was the son of the late Rowland K. Carver Sr. and Dorothea V. Farmer Carver Durett. He served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

Rowland worked for Bell Labs as an assistant member of the technical staff and supervisory committee for 32 years until retiring in 1987. He was also a director of Western Electric Credit Union. Rowland was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Lehigh Valley Computer Club, served as treasurer of the Astronomy Club and was also a private pilot until the late 1990s.

Survivors include his loving wife, Jean; daughters Rebecca K. Cappella of Cold Water, Mich., and Sandra L. Carver Woodman of Catasauqua, Pa.; stepsons Rick Bair and his wife, Arielle, of Northampton, Pa., and Keith Bair and his wife, Kathy, of Longwood, Fla.; brothers Robert W. Carver of Richmond and William R. Carver of Fredericksburg; sister Diane Newton of Chancellorsville, Pa.; and grandchildren Alex, Jason and Sara.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 15, at Long Funeral Home, 500 Linden St., Bethlehem, Pa., where friends may call from 2 p.m. until the time of the service.
